The US supply chain execution solutions provider Catalyst International has teamed up with Babush Material Handling Systems to open their new RFID testing lab - the Star Alliance Center - for evaluating RFID solutions in a real-world environment.
The centre was designed to give the firms' clients a better understanding of what they need to do to comply with the Electronic Product Code (EPC) RFID tagging standards mandated by the US Department of Defense, Wal-Mart and other major retailers.
The full-scale RFID lab with multiple integration points was also designed to help companies take their RFID capabilities beyond simple compliance, achieving additional benefits in terms of customer service and operational efficiency.
The 3,200 square-foot facility in Sussex, WI, USA, boasts an automated end-to-end product processing system that lets companies test and assess how various RFID solutions will interact with their existing supply chain and ERP software, material handling equipment and control technology. Products move through the real-world warehouse simulation facility from packaging and RFID tagging to label printing and palletisation at run rates of up to 600 feet/minute.
Other partners in the Star Alliance centre include The Glennon Group, which provides integrated labelling, marking and packaging solutions, and Columbia Machine, a supplier of palletising equipment. Contributors to the centre include CTM Integration, Datamax, Fibergrations, SAMSys, Sato America, 3M/Combi, and Zebra Technologies.
