Korean holiday resort opts for RFID membership cards
Wednesday March 16, 2005

The French contactless technology firm Inside Contactless, through its Korean partner ID Future, has delivered tens of thousands of its PicoPass cards and Accesso readers to YANGJI Resorts in Korea for an RFID-based membership card system.

YANGJI Resorts has implemented the RFID system in its ski resort, hotel, and golf club to replace existing magnetic stripe membership cards with Inside's contactless PicoPass smart card. The smart card includes a dual-protocol PicoPass chip which allows YANGJI Resorts to provide its members with a range of services within the campus. For example, services include: access to free ski-lift tickets within the ski resort, secure access to hotel rooms and resort facilities, discounts for purchases within the resort, access to the green, and booking the golf course (for members of the Golf Club).

This aim of the system is to provide club members with more convenience, and provide the report with increased security against counterfeit membership cards. In addition, the card's electronic purse comes with a preloaded value which allows it to be used within the resort facilities (the restaurant, games room, sports club, etc.) at a discounted price. An access control feature was added to give members access to specific facilities depending on their membership level.

"Thanks to PicoPass, we are able to provide the resort with a solution involving proximity and vicinity within the campus. The security in the chip also was the perfect choice to implement the electronic purse function for pre-paid applications," said Young-Sik Park, project director for ID Future.

"Contactless is becoming a way of life in Korea," concluded Dennis Khoo, Inside's vice president of sales for the Asia-Pacific region. "We are pleased to be part of it and to promote a lifestyle involving greater convenience and security."
