The Swiss economic intelligence monitor, CentreDoc, has launched an RFID patent-watching online portal called 'RFID Patents', which focuses on new developments in RFID technology patents and intellectual property.
RFID is the subject of intense activity in the field of patents, with much attention being focused on making it easier for technology users to access intellectual property (IP) that's protected by patent rights (see August 15th, 2005).
Proof of this can be seen in the increasing number of patent applications announced over the past five years: between 2000 and 2004, no fewer than 1,625 new inventions have been published, 697 in 2004 alone, representing a year-on-year increase of 65%.
Needs analysis
On the strength of this observation, CentreDoc carried out a survey of firms in the sector to determine their requirements in terms of technological information and, more particularly, patents. This survey resulted in the launch of the RFID Patents portal, which is intended to provide regular and pertinent information to industry players.
Each month, RFID Patents will supply bibliographical data, a summary in English, and the complete text of new patents ranging from tag technology to readers and their applications. Its coverage will extend to American, European and other global (PCT) patent applications.
