Extending its reach in the retail space, technology firm SeeBeyond is working with Sun Microsystems to participate in the development of the forthcoming 'Sun RFID Industry Solution Architecture (ISA) for Retail'.
The new architecture is being developed to offer retailers a complete and integrated offering to help improve business processes and obtain insight from data collected via RFID technologies.
Sun and SeeBeyond first announced their partnership to work on RFID information architectures at SeeBeyond's annual customer conference, HORIZONS, in late 2004. The joint technology and marketing agreement features Service-Oriented Architecture-based solutions and composite application delivery via the Sun Java Enterprise System.
The latest announcement revealed plans for the joint development of the RFID ISA for Retail, which will couple Sun's Java System RFID Software with the SeeBeyond RFID Composite Application Network solution offering. The joint offering is intended to provide an end-to-end solution that addresses the specific business challenges of retailers while leveraging the power of RFID data.
A key benefit is expected to be the ability to alter core business processes to make better use of RFID demand and movement signals. More information about the RFID ISA for Retail is expected to be published by the end of March 2005, along with demonstrations of the solution at Sun's own RFID Test Centre in Dallas, Texas, USA.
"Sun believes that one of the key components needed for customers to maximise the potential of RFID is a solid infrastructure that can manage high volumes of information and scale to support growing system requirements," explained Vijay Sarathy, director of RFID product marketing and strategy at Sun Microsystems.
