Datamars, a supplier of RFID-based solutions for textile and companion animal identification, has announced the launch of its new 'PersonalChip' product - a small and thin high frequency (HF) RFID laundry tag.
The company says that industrial laundries can use the new chip to enhance their productivity, clothing identification and sorting processes because it was designed specifically for identifying personal garments where manual sorting is required.
Potential applications
Possible application areas cited by the company include nursing homes, hotels, schools, and private hospitals. The PersonalChip is part of Datamars' overall ID solution for these sectors and is suited to tagging personal clothing including shirts, skirts, sportswear, shorts, and underwear.
The PersonalChip is 11mm in diameter, 2mm thick, and can be read at a distance of up to 20cm. The chip is fully ISO15963 compatible, and can withstand temperatures between -40 and +120 degrees C.
Blending in
Other features of the laundry tag include light colouring (making it almost imperceptible, especially on white garments), and resistance to the harsh environments of laundry processes (including sterilization).
According to Ken Boyle, chief marketing officer for Datamars, "This tag offers a robust solution for the identification and tracking of personal clothing in the nursing home laundry cycle."
