Blue Vector unveils versatile e-pedigree system
Tuesday April 22, 2008

Blue Vector Systems has announced the introduction of the new 'Blue Vector Serialisation Station', offered in several form factors, which provides a station for scanning the serial numbers of pallets, cases, totes and items throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.

The station automatically handles the transmission of the status of each item to central pedigree systems and outside billing agencies.

Adaptable station
The new Serialisation Station is available in form factors suitable for the special needs of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. The following form factors are available:

  • Tabletop stations for manual packaging and inspection operations;

  • Conveyor-mounted stations for manufacturing and distribution;

  • Mobile cart stations for situations which require mobility and flexibility;

  • Small footprint stations for local pharmacies.

Operations support
The operations supported by the stations, regardless of form factor, include:

  • Aggregation of items into cases, totes, pallets, orders, and shipments;

  • Triggering the creation of the initial pedigree;

  • Verification of the pedigree and completeness of incoming items;

  • Quarantine or special handling of items;

  • Updating the pedigree of items being shipped, and ensuring shipping accuracy.

Technology and standards support
Because of the diversity of tagging standards employed by manufacturers around the world, the station supports any combination of commonly used serialisation technologies, including:

  • Linear barcodes;
  • Two-dimensional barcodes;
  • RFID tags (both UHF and HF types).

The company says that demand for the Serialisation Station was driven by drug regulations in the United States and government reimbursement requirements in Europe and Latin America. Blue Vector's early customers for the Serialisation Station range from companies moving toward compliance with California's future pedigree requirements by 2011 to international operations that must conform to government mandates by the end of this year.
