Kronos adds RFID to vehicle inspection system
Friday September 5, 2008

In response to demand from its fleet operator customers such as K-12 pupil transportation, commercial and private trucking, and refuse and concrete truck operators, Kronos has formed a relationship with Zonar Systems to offer a solution that meets mandatory vehicle inspection requirements and centrally tracks labour data.

The collection of timely and accurate labour tracking data is a challenge for the transportation industry, particularly K-12 pupil transportation, which constitutes a significant portion of the industry.

Overcoming barriers
Many other solutions on the market either require a stationary badge terminal at the parking area or a single-purpose mobile data collection device. A stationary badge terminal does not serve drivers who take school buses home at night, nor does it provide accurate data collection for special activities such as field trips and sporting events for which drivers may be paid at different rates.

Through the new relationship, time stamps and data on vehicle inspection details from Zonar's EVIR System and 2010 Handheld RFID Reader will be integrated into Kronos' Workforce Central suite via GSM cell technology.

How it works
Zonar 2010 handheld readers are placed by drivers within a few inches of individual RFID tags inserted in critical inspection zones of vehicles. Once the inspection is complete, through a simple push-button application, the information is transmitted to a secure database via a telematics application, and can be accessed from any web browser.

When this information is integrated into Kronos' Workforce Central suite, end-users will be able to view time and attendance information in real-time, and additionally gain accurate insights into vehicle inspection details. This aims to enable faster and improved business decisions for enhanced productivity.
