A top-level biometrics and RFID project is to be used to help reduce security threats on the Israeli borders, thanks to a partnership of EDS (Electronic Data Systems) and OTI (On Track Innovations).
The two companies have designed a 'Total ID' credentialing system for the US-sponsored Basel Project on the Israeli border near the Gaza Strip.
The high-profile security project makes use of a combination of technologies, including biometrics, a contactless smart card-based RFID chip, and a physical checking system using special isolation chambers, all of which help to eliminate any remaining guesswork in the identification process.
What's unique about this project is that three biometric solutions are contained on a single contactless card making identification faster, much more accurate, and highly reliable. The biometric technologies employed are:
- Facial recognition
- Hand geometry
- Fingerprinting
OTI's other security applications are already in use at Liberty Airport in Newark, NJ, USA, for the Continental Airlines 'Registered Traveler' scheme, and also in electronic passports for China's National ID programme.
