SATO International has announced its new range of printers that come fitted with an RFID module from its technology partner Alien Technology. Initially, three printers are to be fitted with the modules, including the high performance 'CL408e' and 'CL412e' units and the 'M-8485Se' print-and-apply engine.
The new printers are capable of writing data onto RFID tags as well as printing labels and tickets. Defective tags are automatically detected, reducing the chance of errors later on. The Alien Technology RFID module adopted by SATO operates at a frequency of 915MHz (UHF), which conforms to the EPC Class 1 standard. The company says that support for additional frequencies is also being developed in accordance with market demand and the ratification of standards.
According to Victor Barczyk, vice president of business development for SATO International, in the distribution industry the CL408e and CL412e printers are already known for their sturdy build and throughput speed. The M-8485Se, on the other hand, is designed specifically for the production line because of its fast printing speed and high print quality. "The Alien Technology modules allow us to provide a greater choice of printers for our clients - especially those who are considering implementing RFID solutions," commented Barczyk.
SATO fully supports the Uniform Code Council's (UCC) Electronic Product Code (EPC) initiatives and the recent Wal-Mart mandate, and its EPC Class 1-compliant RFID printing solution is now running in the Wal-Mart RFID testing and development lab in Bentonville, Arkansas, USA.
