Indian and Australian RFID associations join forces
Tuesday August 23, 2005

The RFID Association of India (RFIDAI) has entered into an agreement with the RFID Association of Australia (RFIDAA), to expand the network of both associations and to collaborate toward the promotion and adoption of RFID.

With a growing interest in RFID in both countries, the new partnership adds value for participants in both associations by increasing opportunities for networking (both for end users and technology providers).

As industry associations, both organisations intend to work with their respective governments to encourage the government to become a key RFID user. The associations also intend to collaborate in the pursuit of international standards, and to support and participate in each other's technical programmes while driving further the responsible adoption of the technology.

Bimal Sareen, president of RFIDAI, and founder & CEO of AVAANA, said, "We are pleased to expand the international network of the RFID Association of India. An expanding international network of RFIDAI enables users and providers in India and elsewhere to collaborate internationally." Ian Watt, Chairman of RFIDAA, and managing director for Applied Electronic Commerce, added, "This is an important step for RFIDAA as it establishes itself as a national body to act as the focal point for RFID in Australia."

The agreement was signed and announced at the Impetus 2005 RFID Conference in Melbourne, Australia, in the presence of the Honourable Marsha Thomson, Minister for Information & Communication Technology, Victorian Government of Australia, and EAN Australia (now GS1 Australia). Minister Thomson noted that the agreement will enable mutual cooperation and information exchange and is intended to optimize the development and deployment of RFID in these two countries and elsewhere in the Asian region.
