Psion Teklogix and N4 Systems have announced a new partnership to develop and market a real-time RFID-based mobile data collection solution for safety compliance and inspection applications.
The new solution integrates N4 Systems' Field ID software with Psion Teklogix's Workabout Pro and Ikon PDA format rugged mobile devices.
Heavy industries targeted
Paper-based field inspections are difficult to track: they can get lost, they aren't available in real-time, and they don't provide easy access to government agencies who may want to review them. Moreover, retyping data into a computer is labour intensive and often prone to human error.
Mining, oil and gas, automotive and utilities companies (such as Certex USA, Commercial Group Lifting Products, Unirope, Hercules SLR, Key Constructors and the Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau) are already using the joint N4/Psion Teklogix solution to achieve more accurate and efficient paperless field inspections and real-time safety compliance.
Multiple technologies
The new platform allows users to electronically record and automatically create inspection reports in the field to determine the status of their safety compliance in real-time. N4's Field ID system uses multiple technologies to create a fully-integrated enterprise application, and the system includes RFID for asset identification using rugged handheld computers with 3G WWAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, as well as an integrated camera option.
The application also features secure data management, distribution and storage, remote system management and support, and optimized high speed web network integration. "Being able to wirelessly collect, analyse and report on critical inspection data at 'the point of work' can dramatically improve safety and compliance," explained Mike Jachimiec, vice president of channel sales for Psion Teklogix.
