ODIN Technologies reports that it has been chosen as one of the RFID deployment partners for the US$62 million US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) contract, which was awarded to Unisys in January 2008. The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) contract features RFID combined with license plate recognition technology to help secure US borders and to streamline the border crossing process. The programme will use RFID-enabled identification cards for faster identity verification at border crossings. WHTI specifies that RFID will be deployed at more than 300 border crossing lanes which inspect and process people travelling into the US from both Canada and Mexico.
